General contractor Goldbeck Solar is now starting construction on the Berliner Stadtgüter site - a state-owned facility that provides large Brandenburg areas for agriculture, nature conservation and renewable energies. The plant is economically secured via a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with LEAG.

The project represents an approach that solves growing land conflicts instead of exacerbating them: Agriculture and power generation share the same area - without displacing each other. Between the vertically arranged bifacial modules, there is enough light and space for cultivation; a regional farm will grow asparagus or berries there.

Key figures

  • Location: Berlin-Schönefeld, Brandenburg

  • Developers: Elysium Solar

What the research says

  1. Huge potential. Fraunhofer ISE, July 2025. 500 gigawatts of agri-PV could already be installed on the most suitable areas in Germany - more than the German PV expansion targets for 2040.1
  2. More yield, less water. Hohenheim University, 2025. In the Heggelbach pilot plant, agricultural yields increased by 3 to 12 percent even in the extreme year 2018; combined area productivity improved by up to 186 percent.2
  3. Economic gain for farmers. Boston Consulting Group, 2024/2025. Agri-PV projects can enable medium-sized farms to generate annual additional profits of between EUR 55,000 and 75,000. Any loss of yield due to shadowing is more than offset by income from electricity production.3

Importance for klimaVest

For klimaVest, Schönefeld is the first step towards a technology with a future - and proof that sustainable energy production and agricultural use are not contradictory. As the first open-ended private investor fund in Germany with access to a large-scale agri-PV project, we are opening up an innovative asset class with a clear ecological and economic perspective to our investors.
