About the wind farm

Ideal wind conditions on the Atlantic coast

Tout Vent marked klimaVest’s entry into the French electricity market. The wind farm is located in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region of western France, not far from the Biskayan coast. The site lives up to its name 'Tout Vent' and benefits from constant wind conditions that enable stable electricity yields.

Long-term planning security through state subsidies

With six turbines from the manufacturer Nordex, Tout Vent achieves a total rated output of 18 megawatts. The economic security of the wind farm is guaranteed by a state feed-in tariff for 20 years. This guaranteed purchase of electricity creates long-term planning security and stable cash flows for the fund. The wind farm was commissioned in August 2021 and was already acquired by klimaVest in November 2021. 

Proven partnership with BayWa r.e.

The company management is in the trusted hands of BayWa r.e., an international project developer and service provider. With this partner, Commerz Real had already successfully implemented three joint projects in Spain and Germany before Tout Vent. This tried-and-tested cooperation guarantees professional operation and regular maintenance of the systems over the entire service life.

France accelerates wind power expansion

France has the second-largest wind energy potential in Europe after the UK.1 At the end of 2024, wind energy already covered nine percent of France’s electricity demand2 - a trend that is increasing. The geographical conditions of the country are ideal: Large land areas with extensive agricultural areas and a coastline of around 3,400 kilometres3 provide sufficient space for the further expansion of wind power.

Continuous growth despite regulatory challenges

The French wind energy market is showing continuous growth despite some regulatory challenges. In 2024, France installed 1.7 gigawatts of new wind power, making it one of the three leading markets in Europe after Germany and the United Kingdom.4 At the end of 2023, wind power plants with an output of around 23.3 gigawatts were available in France for electricity production.1 

Ambitious expansion targets and established value chain

The French government is pursuing ambitious renewable energy expansion targets. By 2030, the country aims to significantly increase its electricity production from renewable sources in order to achieve the goal of climate neutrality by 2050.5 The wind energy industry employs over 31,000 people⁶ and is firmly in European hands. The market leaders are the French companies Engie and EDF Renouvelables as well as the German company EnergieTEAM.6

With Tout Vent, we not only acquired a world-class wind farm in 2021, but also gained access to one of the most important European renewable energy markets. The stable wind conditions on the Atlantic coast and the long-term state feed-in tariff make this location an ideal building block for our portfolio.

Success model for successful collaboration  

Strategic market entry into a growth market

The acquisition of Tout Vent in November 2021 marked klimaVest’s entry into the French electricity market. For investors, the fund thus taps into important investment opportunities and further diversifies the portfolio geographically. France is an attractive investment location for solar and wind projects due to its economic and political framework conditions. The wind farm formed the basis for the further expansion of the commitment in France: Today, the portfolio includes eleven French assets, including nine other wind farms and a solar farm from the joint venture with the EnBW Group.

Successful partnership as the basis for further growth

The cooperation with BayWa r.e. once again proved its worth at Tout Vent. Before this project, Commerz Real had already implemented three joint projects in Spain and Germany with the partner. The smooth transaction and professional operation show how important reliable partners are for the long-term success of such investments. This proven partnership enabled further acquisitions: In March 2025, for example, klimaVest acquired the ready-to-build Amance solar park in eastern France from BayWa r.e. - further proof of the successful cooperation.

Geographic diversification creates stability

klimaVest strategically expanded its geographical spread with the first French wind farm. France currently contributes 9.4 per cent to the country allocation in the portfolio and thus forms an important component for the fund’s risk diversification. The different climate zones and wind conditions in Europe - from the Atlantic coast in France to the Finnish expanses to the Spanish high plains - enable constant yields despite seasonal fluctuations at individual locations.
